With its 368 meters, the Berlin TV Tower is the tallest tower in Germany and the second tallest building in Europe. It features an observation platform offering panoramic views of the whole city.
The construction of the tower was ordered by the then still Socialist government of East Germany. It began in 1965 and took 4 years to finish, the tower standing ready by 1969. For the tower to be built, a large part of the historical part of Berlin had to be destroyed. An old medieval church, which still stands next to it today, is all that remains.
It is forbidden to enter the tower with large pieces of baggage, including rucksacks and shopping bags. The Tower does not offer any storage rooms for these, either, and you cannot leave them at the Tower’s cloakroom. It is recommended that you leave them at Alexanderplatz instead. There is wi-fi available for guests on the Tower’s premises in the restaurant, at the entrance area, but also at the observation deck.
