Also called Marble Church, this church is one of the most unforgettable landmarks in Copenhagen, easily recognizable by its large green dome. Do not miss the chance to check the dome out, as it is the largest of its kind in entire Scandinavia. Some say it was inspired by the famous St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
The church has an interesting history, too. Designed in 1740 by Nicolai Eigtved in the Rococo style, its construction officially started 9 years after that and was meant to be finished in a few years' time. That wasn't the case though. Due to lack of finances as well as interest, the church remained incomplete for nearly another 150 years, only to be finally opened to public in 1894.
If you manage to visit during a sunny day, do not miss the chance to enter the dome, too. It offers a beautiful view of the surrounding city. Remember to bring some cash though, as it is impossible to pay with a credit card here.
