These catacombs belong among the largest and oldest in Rome. They spread over 17 kilometers of underground tunnels, and it is estimated that some 150 000 burials have taken place here since their opening. The basilica inside and the graves of Christian martyrs Nereus and Achilles are definitely worth a visit.
The name of the catacombs comes from Flavia Domitilla, a Roman noblewoman, who owned the land under which they are located.
