Greenwich Village

Local nameGreenwich Village
LocationManhattan, New York City, United States

The iconic neighbourhood of New York City, which was once known as a bohemian haven and was also home to many artists, is now one of the most posh parts of the city. Its existence dates back to the 17th century and thanks to its liberal inhabitants, it became a cradle of many cultural and artistic movements. Some of the most famous inhabitants of the Village (as it is nicknamed by the locals) were e.g. Edgar Allan Poe, Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan or Truman Capote.

Among the most interesting places to visit are e.g. Washington Square Park, Cherry Lane Theatre (a popular Off-Broadway Theatre), Stonewall Inn (the location of the 1969 Stonewall Riots) or the Friends Apartment (from the famous sitcom). There are also many bars, clubs and restaurants where you can enjoy a night out.
