Waldorf-Astoria Hotel

Local nameWaldorf-Astoria Hotel
LocationManhattan, New York City, United States

The original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was not in the same location it is today. The first hotel was built in the place where William Waldorf Astor used to live in his mansion. Shortly after that, there was a second building with the same name near the original one, managed by Astor's cousin, John Jacob.

Unfortunately, John died on Titanic and William moved to the United Kingdom. The building was torn down and the area was sold to developers of what later became the Empire State Building. Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was moved to its current location, the Park Avenue, and became the tallest hotel in the world during that time.

Fans of Art Deco architecture should not miss out on the opportunity to visit this place, or even spend a night here. Preserving its 1930's atmosphere and charm, walking inside of the hotel is like stepping back in time.

The hotel is currently closed and under complete renovation for the next 2 to 3 years, so it can only be viewed from outside. The building is just 4 minutes away from the subway station 51 Street, lines 4 and 6.
