This is the most important and most famous road the ancient Romans have ever built. It gets its name from the Roman noble who financed its construction, a certain Appianus.

The road, spanning across nearly the entire Apennine peninsula, consists of several parts, that were built at various periods. The oldest and longest section of the road dates back to 312 BC., while the newest additions were finished under the rule of emperor Trajan, in the 1st century AD.
