Situated in the very heart of the city, this square is surrounded by greenery and several historical buildings. The name of the square could be translated as "Independence square". It has witnessed many historically important events including the proclamation of Malaysian independence. The middle of the park is adorned with a flagpole with the Malaysian flag.
