Church of La Compañía, Quito

Construction of this Jesuit church began in 1605, representing a premier example of Spanish Baroque architecture. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the complex historically housed the San Ignacio Residence, the San Luis Seminary, and the University of San Gregorio Magno. It also serves as the national sanctuary for Saint Mariana de Jesús.

The building is frequently referred to as the Gold Church or the Golden Ember because its interior is almost entirely covered in gold leaf and detailed wood carvings. The exterior features a facade carved from volcanic stone. This 17th and 18th-century temple, sometimes called the Temple of Solomon of South America, is considered one of the seven wonders of Ecuador and is celebrated for its rich ornamentation.

Situated near the Plaza Grande, the church is a primary sightseeing destination and is open to the public. It remains one of the most significant cultural landmarks in the historic center of the city.
