Škocjanské jeskyně

This UNESCO World Heritage site is a significant example of classical karst phenomena, characterized by an extensive limestone cave system carved by the Reka River. It features one of the world's largest underground canyons and massive subterranean chambers. The cave environment includes diverse stalactite and stalagmite formations, notably housing one of the largest stalagmites in the world. A bridge is suspended 45 meters above the canyon floor, spanning the river below.

Archaeological evidence indicates human habitation within the caves dating back to 3,000 B.C. The site is recognized as a significant natural monument due to its unique geological features and rich biodiversity. The complex system includes numerous waterfalls and large underground halls that demonstrate significant karstic processes.

The cave system is open to the public as a show cave. Exploration of the subterranean landscape includes various galleries and the path of the river through the canyon.
