The site consists of an archaeological complex containing both a Roman theatre from the 2nd to 3rd century and a later amphitheatre constructed in the 3rd to 4th century. Significant portions of the ruins, including the eastern entrance, sections of the arena, and the tribunes, are preserved and integrated into the ground floor and basement of the Arena di Serdica Hotel.
Originally part of the ancient city of Ulpia Serdica, this arena was one of the largest in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. The later amphitheatre was built directly on top of the older theatre ruins.
Discovered in 2004, the site is accessible to the public within the modern building. The architectural remains showcase well-preserved masonry and structural elements from the Roman and late antique periods.
