When you visit this street, you may think that time had stopped in its track centuries ago here. The street is lined with colourful houses reconstructed to look exactly like they did in the Middle Ages. It is a great place to just aimlessly stroll about, wander through the many small shops and stalls offering a wide variety of trinkets and goods, and just enjoy the atmosphere.
This small traditional street, hidden away in a historical part of Zurich, runs between the high-end shopping street Bahnhofstrasse on one side and a 13th-century church and the St. Peter's Square (in front of another church) on the other.
When walking through the street, notice how many of the houses have bay windows, usually located slightly to the left or to the right above the entrance to the house. Rumour has it, these were used to check whether unwelcome visitors are coming so that the house's inhabitants could pretend they are not home.
