Historically known as Four Street Square and later Plaza Mayor, this site has been a central hub of life since the Reconquista. It served as the city's political and civic heart, once housing the City Council and other significant administrative buildings. The square was renamed in 1812 and currently commemorates the Spanish constitutions of 1812 and 1978 with bronze plaques set into the paving stones.

The area was transformed into a pedestrian precinct in 2003 and is characterized by its cobblestones and a central fountain. It serves as the starting point for Calle Larios and the surrounding Historic Quarter. The square acts as a primary venue for major cultural events, including the Feria de Málaga, Easter processions, and New Year's Eve celebrations.
