As the name suggests, this square is something of a cultural hub of Amsterdam, with three of the city's most interesting museums situated here: The Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art. In addition to that, you can also find a concert hall and the Diamond Museum here.
The place, first designed by Pierre Cuypers in the late 19th century, got its look after a reconstruction in 1999. Its green open space, complete with a pond, which is used as an ice skating area in the winter, is popular among the locals as a place of public gatherings and screenings of football matches.
