Dating back to the 1330s, this Grade I listed monastic barn is one of the largest and finest medieval barns in England. It was originally built to serve the manor farm of Shaftesbury Abbey. The structure is recognized as a significant historical monument and represents a well-preserved example of 14th-century architecture.
The stone building measures 51 metres in length and is characterized by its impressive timber cruck roof. This architectural feature is a primary highlight of the site's medieval construction. The barn was part of a larger medieval grange and includes a granary dated to approximately 1400.
The site served as a filming location for the television series Robin of Sherwood. It is situated in a scenic area near the Kennet & Avon Canal and is open to the public. The building is owned and protected by English Heritage.
