Construction dates back to 1901, and the venue officially opened its doors in 1909. Designated as a cultural monument, the structure contains a main auditorium with a seating capacity for 800 people. Until July 2025, the institution operated under the name Severočeské divadlo opery a baletu (North Bohemian Theater of Opera and Ballet).
The repertoire focuses on a diverse range of performing arts, including opera, ballet, and musical theater performances. In addition to staging its own local productions, the venue hosts guest performances and orchestral concerts.
