This 400-million-year-old limestone hill comprises a series of caves and cave temples. Established as a Hindu temple complex in 1920, the site is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It serves as a significant religious landmark and a world-renowned pilgrimage site.
A massive 140-foot (42.7-meter) golden statue of Lord Murugan, the world's second-tallest statue of a Hindu deity, stands at the entrance. To reach the main Temple Cave, a steep staircase consisting of 272 vibrant, colorful steps must be climbed.
The site is the center for the annual Thaipusam festival. In addition to its religious functions, the limestone cliffs are utilized for rock climbing. The complex includes several distinct caves, with the Temple Cave being the primary cavern at the top of the stairs.
