Established in 1911, this museum documents and presents the city's history, focusing on personal memories and everyday life. It is housed in a complex of several old and new buildings, including the Sederholm house, which dates to 1757 and is the oldest building in the city. The museum reopened in May 2016 following renovations and was recognized as the Museum of the Year in 2017.
As the regional museum for the capital region and Central Uusimaa, the institution is responsible for preserving cultural heritage and guiding museum activities throughout the area. It is part of a museum family that includes four other city museums.
The museum hosts various events, including architectural tours, film-related programs, and rotating exhibitions. The museum is open to the public.
