This massive abyss drops approximately 1,000 to 1,200 meters from the edge of the Angolan Central Plateau. Situated on the escarpment of the Serra da Leba, it marks the western limit of the Humpata Plateau. The top of the formation consists of flat grassland at an elevation of 2,200 meters, leading to dramatic vertical cliffs.
Recognized as one of Angola’s Seven Wonders of Nature, the site is a designated cultural landscape. The viewpoints provide expansive views across the landscapes of the Huíla and Namibe provinces, stretching for dozens of kilometers into the valley below.
The area is a destination for sightseeing and hiking. The terrain transitions from the high-altitude plateau to a deep gorge, offering a stark geological contrast between the highland plains and the lowland provinces.
