Established in 1765, this minor basilica and Catholic cathedral is the largest church in the country and the seat of the local Bishop. Known as the national spiritual heart, the sanctuary is the central point for devotion to the Virgin of the Miracles.

The interior houses a historic sculpture of the Virgin Mary. An on-site museum chronicles the history of the temple and the religious traditions of the community. The grounds also feature the Tupãsy Ykuá, a spring regarded as miraculous by the faithful. The building is wheelchair accessible.

As a major destination for pilgrims, the site attracts hundreds of thousands of people annually, with peak attendance occurring around the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th.
