Kalahari Desert

This vast semi-arid sandy savanna covers 900,000 square kilometers and is characterized by a landscape of red sand, golden grasslands, and fossil river valleys. The interior plateau sits at approximately 900 meters above sea level and features a 'Kalaharian' climate with less than 250 mm of rainfall per year. Ancient geological history includes the presence of large paleolakes and numerous pans across the undulating topography.

The region supports diverse flora and fauna, including unique species such as the kiwano fruit. Prolific wildlife inhabits the area, particularly within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which is the largest and most remote wildlife reserve in the region, covering 52,800 square kilometers. Permanent surface water is generally absent, making the ecosystem dependent on seasonal patterns.

As the ancestral home of the San people, the area provides opportunities for cultural experiences and nature-based activities like stargazing and hunting. The landscape includes the Okavango Delta and offers a remote wilderness environment. The region is open for exploration, providing an authentic wilderness experience.
