Established in 1896, this regional institution preserves and exhibits the science, art, and cultural history of Northern Ostrobothnia. The collection focuses on strengthening local identity through the preservation of regional heritage and thematic displays. Programming includes specialized content for children alongside diverse historical and cultural exhibitions.
The museum is currently transitioning to a new location within the Tiima museum and science center complex. This new facility is scheduled to open in October 2026, where it will continue to explore the region's story through local creativity and historical narratives.
