This well-preserved 19th-century trading center served as the wealthiest of its kind in Northern Norway. The site consists of 15 restored and protected buildings, including a manor house, store, and warehouse. These structures feature authentic original interiors reflecting the social and economic history of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The complex operates as an open-air museum under the management of Nordlandsmuseet. It preserves a record of coastal trade, agriculture, and the maritime history of the region. Historical records highlight the life of the merchant Erasmus Zahl, who was associated with the post. The site is also recognized as a filming location.

Situated along a coastline surrounded by high mountain peaks, the trading post has been open to the public since 1959. The preservation covers the architectural details and the lifestyle of the merchant class during the height of the regional fishing trade.
