This 17th and 18th-century British military fortification is a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for its strategic polygonal design and colonial architecture. Designed by British military engineers and built by enslaved Africans, the complex stands as a significant historical monument and is often referred to as the 'Gibraltar of the West Indies'.
