Opened on July 6, 1940, this heritage-listed steel cantilever bridge serves as a vital transport link across the river. The structure is a prominent architectural landmark known for its night illumination and its role as the centerpiece for the annual Riverfire fireworks display.
Guided adventure climbs allow for a scale of the structure, providing 360-degree views of the skyline and Moreton Bay. A northern base for these climbs is situated at the Howard Smith Wharves. The bridge is also visible from nearby parklands, which provide various vantage points of the steel architecture.
As a heritage-listed road bridge, it represents a significant example of mid-20th-century engineering. The site is open to the public for both transport and organized climbing experiences.
