This cable-stayed bridge spans the Kemijoki River and is recognized as a major architectural landmark. Completed on September 28, 1989, it was the first structure of its kind built for road traffic in Finland.
The bridge is characterized by its distinctive pylon, which reaches a height of 47 meters. The design is inspired by the jätkänkynttilä, or lumberjack's candle, a traditional torch made from a notched log. Specialized lighting installed at the top of the pylon mimics the appearance of a burning flame, creating a visual effect that is visible across the water.
As a prominent feature of the local skyline, the bridge serves as a frequent subject for photography. It provides views of the river and the surrounding urban landscape.
