Perched on a cliff 3,120 meters above sea level, this Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhist monastery complex was established in 1692. The structure is built directly into the rock face and belongs to the Drukpa Kagyu tradition. The site is known for its isolated location and features a series of temples with scenic trails and prayer wheels.
The complex is centered around a meditation cave where Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, is said to have meditated in the 8th century. According to local legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived at this location on the back of a tiger, giving rise to the name Tiger's Nest.
The monastery remains an active place of worship and a significant pilgrimage destination. Access to the complex is via the Taktsang Trail, which leads through the cliffside landscape.
