This Tongkonan located in the district of Rembon, Tana Toraja, is unique in that it is the only traditional Torajan building still in existence with a stone roof. This Tongkonan boasts about 1,000 stones on its roof that are tied together and connected by two small holes drilled in the tops of the stones.
Although it is not usually open to the public, those who are granted permission into the Tongkonan must follow a strict ritual. Before entering the house, guests must knock on the doorframe three times with their head, otherwise, as local lore goes, they will soon get sick.
