Founded in 1957, this specialized museum is dedicated to the research, preservation, and archiving of the material and visual cultural heritage of the Orthodox Church of Finland. The building was designed by architect Dag Englund. The institution serves as a central repository for ecclesiastical art and historical archives, documenting the development of Orthodox culture.

The museum houses a renowned collection of icons, sacramental vessels, and liturgical textiles dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Many of these items were rescued and evacuated from parishes and monasteries in Karelia, Petsamo, and the Karelian Isthmus following the territorial cessions of the Second World War. Significant artifacts originate from the historic monasteries of Valamo and Konevitsa.

Permanent exhibitions focus on the history of Orthodox monasteries and convents, while seasonal displays showcase contemporary art with Orthodox themes. The facility is open to the public, providing access to rare manuscripts and unique ecclesiastical objects that represent a significant part of the national heritage.
