This historic Buddhist monastery and fortress serves as the seat of the national government and the main secretariat building. It houses the throne room and offices of the King, as well as various government ministries. The site is used for high-level government functions and royal audiences.
The complex also functions as the summer residence for the Je Khenpo and the Central Monastic Body. Within its fortified walls, the structure contains numerous temples and shrines, acting as a center for religious life.
The architecture features traditional whitewashed walls and golden roofs. It is a significant landmark representing the heart of Bhutanese administration and culture, blending the functions of a fortress and a monastery.
