Founded in 1977, this site functions as both a zoo and a cultural museum. The wildlife collection includes species such as chimpanzees, leopards, crocodiles, snakes, and antelopes, alongside an onsite aquarium. In addition to animal enclosures, the grounds host fresh-air concerts and exhibits showcasing traditional Burundian tools and royal artifacts.
The cultural section features a reconstruction of a traditional Burundian house, known as a rugo, and active workshops where local artisans practice traditional crafts. While the facility serves as a mirror of national heritage, reports from 2016 have noted concerns regarding the living conditions of the captive animals.
