This 220-meter-tall structure is characterized by its slender design and was officially opened in 1965. It impounds the Verzasca River to create Lake Vogorno, supporting a 105 MW hydroelectric power station.

The dam gained international fame as the filming location for the opening scene of the 1995 film GoldenEye. In this sequence, a stuntman performed a bungee jump from the top of the wall.

A fixed bungee jumping installation is operated on the structure. The site is known for its architectural design and serves as a venue for extreme sports.
