Deer Park

Local name鹿苑
LocationNara, Japan

This park, established as early as the 13th century AD, is one of the oldest parks in Japan. It is located near the Wakakusa mountain and became famous for the sika deer that roam it, which used to be considered sacred. Nowadays, you can even buy a cracker to feed to them. The park also hosts annual events, like the Wakakusa Yamayaki.

The park is a designated place of scenic beauty and spans over an area of approximately 660 hectares when counting the areas of the multiple beautiful temples, to be found both on the park's grounds and directly next to it.

If you choose to come by car, there are free parking lots right on the park's premises. However, they are quite small, offering only about 200 car places, so do not count on securing a parking place.
