Monument for Soviet Liberation of Hungary occupies a prominent place in the middle of Freedom Square. The monument honours the soldiers of the Red Army who died in 1944-1945 during the liberation of Budapest from the Nazis and Arrow Cross allies.
The monument with the bright gold five-pointed communist star on the top was built by Károly Antal and consists of an obelisk with The hammer and sickle on its crest, a symbol meant to represent proletarian solidarity. At the bottom is a bas-relief of Soviet soldiers engaged in battle.
