The beautiful Venice-like area of Los Angeles used to occupy much bigger space. The original canals, that were created by design of Abbot Kinney in 1905, were soon after their creation seen as an obstacle for the growing net of roadways rather than a beautiful part of the scenery.
The canals that were not turned into roads straight away were neglected and basically falling apart for many years.
In the 1990s the remaining canals were extensively renovated and the whole area turned into a popular neighbourhood. It is a great place for jogging, kayaking or simply walking down the sidewalks. The neighbourhood is a safe and very pretty one where you can truly enjoy the sight of the water and the beautiful bridges and houses surrounding it.
