The Nový dům colony is an architectural ensemble of sixteen modernist family houses constructed between 1927 and 1932. It was established as part of the Exhibition of Contemporary Culture in Czechoslovakia and is the first Werkbund housing estate built outside of Germany, influenced by the principles of the Weißenhofsiedlung.
The houses were designed by a group of prominent architects to showcase functionalist solutions for affordable, modern living aimed at young families. The project reflects post-WWI developments in urban planning and remains a significant landmark in the history of 20th-century modern architecture.
As a recipient of the European Heritage Label, the site is recognized for its contribution to European architectural heritage. The colony continues to serve as a residential neighborhood, illustrating the practical application of functionalist design in a domestic setting.
