Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak

This 182-meter-high volcanic tuff cone was formed by hydrovolcanic activity. It features a large, bowl-shaped crater at its summit, which is covered in grass and supports a diverse ecosystem. Designated as Natural Monument No. 420 and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, the peak is recognized for its significant geological value and unique landscape.

Known as Sunrise Peak, the site is a premier location for viewing the first sunrise of the year. Beyond its geological importance, the area reflects elements of Jeju's modern and contemporary history. The structure's distinct shape and coastal position make it one of the region's most recognizable natural landmarks.

The site is open to the public and features hiking paths that lead to the summit crater rim. The ascent is frequently undertaken to view the sunrise, which is described as a spectacular event. The peak serves as both a national monument and a protected nature reserve.
