Chortens Druk Wangyal

The site consists of 108 memorial stupas, also known as chortens, commissioned by the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk. These monuments were built to honor the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives during a 2003 conflict against insurgents. They serve as a tribute to the victory of the fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuk, and reflect the nation's religious traditions and historical resilience.

Characterized by their distinctive red-band design, these chortens are arranged in a specific pattern on a high mountain ridge. The site provides unobstructed panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. The architecture follows traditional Bhutanese styles, integrating spiritual significance with the surrounding natural landscape.

Adjacent to the memorial stupas is the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a temple constructed to commemorate the centennial of the Bhutanese monarchy. This nearby temple adds to the cultural and historical depth of the area, making the site a central landmark for understanding the country's modern history and religious heritage.
