Fortaleza de São Miguel

Constructed in the 16th century, this Portuguese fortification served as the primary defensive structure and administrative center for the region. It also functioned as a significant location within the slave trade during the colonial period.

The fortress currently houses the National Museum of Military History, also referred to as the Museum of the Armed Forces. The museum showcases exhibits detailing the military past and colonial history of the nation.

Recognized as a National Monument, the site is a prominent example of colonial architecture and cultural heritage. The facility is open to the public for exploration of its historical collections.
