Established in 1901, this museum is located within the Immeuble Franconie, a 19th-century building designated as a national monument in 1986. Recognized as a Musée de France, the institution functions as a cabinet of curiosities, preserving a wide range of archaeological, ethnographic, and natural history specimens. Notable exhibits include the insect collection of Father Yves Barbotin and funerary urns from the Aristé culture. The museum also oversees the family home of Félix Eboué, a prominent leader in the Free French movement.
A specialized gallery explores the history of the French colonial penal colony.
