Slottsskogen is a 137-hectare park designed in the national romantic style, with its history rooted in its past as a royal hunting ground. Established as a city park in 1874, the area consists of a mix of natural forest, large grass fields, and the Azaleadalen valley, which contains a collection of azaleas.
The park contains a zoo focusing on Swedish animals that is free to visit and open year-round. Several educational activity areas and playgrounds are located throughout the grounds, including the large Plikta playground.
