The clock has historical roots dating back to the 15th century. While it has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries, its current appearance was completed in 1955. This version was designed by the artist Karel Svolinský in the style of socialist realism, making it a distinct architectural and artistic monument.
It is recognized as one of the few heliocentric astronomical clocks in the world. The central dial displays the positions of planets against the backdrop of the zodiac. The exterior is decorated with mosaics depicting local traditions, which serve as a significant example of the artistic style of the mid-20th century.
The mechanism features animated figurines and various mosaic decorations. Combining scientific astronomical functions with specific artistic elements, the clock remains a permanent feature of the town hall's northern wall. It is visible from the exterior of the building.
