Established in 2003 through the merger of several national institutions, this cultural center opened in its current brutalist building on June 11, 2022. The structure was designed by architects Klaus Schuwerk and Kleihues + Kleihues. It serves as a major national repository, bringing together collections of art, architecture, and design under one roof.
The museum houses an extensive collection of over 400,000 works ranging from antiquity to the present day.
