This floating pontoon bridge spans 1,851 meters (6,074 feet) and was officially commissioned on July 2, 1978. Originally designed for a 10-year lifespan, the structure remained in operation for 47 years, carrying approximately 14,000 vehicles daily. It features retractable spans to facilitate the passage of river vessels and includes a pedestrian walkway.
In 2025, the floating bridge was replaced by a new four-lane, high-span, cable-stayed bridge. This modern replacement was designed to allow the uninterrupted flow of vehicular and marine traffic, addressing the limitations of the previous retractable design. The original structure was once recognized as the longest floating bridge in the world.
