Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, this historic fortification stands as a prominent feature of the harbor. The structure reflects Omani architectural heritage and has fulfilled multiple roles throughout its history, including serving as a prison.
The site eventually transitioned into a museum, housing various historical artifacts. However, entry to the interior and the museum collections is currently restricted to dignitaries and high-ranking foreign officials.
Observations of the fort are limited to the exterior, where the 16th-century defensive architecture can be viewed from the surrounding area. It remains a significant landmark representing the maritime and military history of the region.
