Completed in 1725 by stonemason Václav Render, this Baroque fountain is the largest and most artistically advanced of the set of historic fountains. It is designated as a National Cultural Monument. The structure reflects the historical ambition for the city to be recognized as a "Moravian Rome."
The fountain's central feature is an equestrian statue of Gaius Julius Caesar, who is locally considered the mythic founder of the city. The sculpture depicts the Roman emperor on a rearing horse.
As the most complex of the six original Baroque fountains, the work represents a high point of local artistic craftsmanship. The fountain is a prominent example of 18th-century monumental artwork.
