The museum is situated within the historic premises of the Premyslid Castle complex, specifically occupying the former Chapter Deanery and the Romanesque Zdík’s Palace. This national cultural monument features significant architectural elements from the Romanesque and Gothic periods. It was established in 1998 as part of the Museum of Art to preserve and showcase the cultural heritage of the region.
The institution serves as a center for Christian history, housing extensive ecclesiastical art collections belonging to the local Archbishopric. Permanent exhibitions focus on the artistic and historical development of the area. In 2015, the site became the first in the country to be awarded the European Heritage Label.
The site is open to the public and features permanent exhibitions showcasing regional history and art. It is recognized as a significant historical site that integrates multiple architectural styles within a single complex.
