Standing at 2,243 meters, this mountain is renowned for a rock formation near its summit that resembles a footprint. Known as the Sacred Footprint or Sri Pada, the site holds deep religious significance for Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike. The peak is famous for casting a distinct triangular shadow across the surrounding landscape at sunrise.
Accessing the summit involves a challenging 6-kilometer climb via a stairway consisting of approximately 5,500 steps. The ascent is traditionally undertaken overnight to reach the peak in time for the sunrise. The route is a major pilgrimage path, and the climb is considered demanding due to the steepness and the high number of stairs.
The site is open to the public and is a prominent destination for both religious pilgrims and hikers. Reaching the top before dawn allows for the observation of the spectacular sunrise views and the mountain's unique shadow.
