Saint Paul's Chapel

Local nameSaint Paul's Chapel
LocationManhattan, New York City, United States

The oldest surviving church building in Manhattan is also tied to a very sad moment in history. It got its nickname "The Little Chapel That Stood" after it survived the 9/11 incident miraculously with no damage, even though it stood less than 100 metres away from the catastrophe.

During the attack, the chapel provided shelter for firemen, policemen, medics and people whose loved ones died in the attack. Everyone in need of rest, food, water or counsel came here. To this day people gather here to commemorate this awful point in history and look at the memorial banners inside.

Aside from that, the building was completed in 1766, making it the tallest structure in New York at that time. This Gregorian church was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960.

Visiting this site should be obligatory for everybody who is near New York to see the aftermath of the event that changed the history of the United States forever.

There are numerous metro stations around the area, some of them being - Cortlandt Street, Fulton Street, Chambers Street, Park Place and others.
