The tower was constructed between 1509 and 1523 as part of the medieval Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie. It stands at 54 meters tall and is an outstanding example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture. Originally serving as a bell tower, it is the only part of the church that remains today.
This tower holds significant historical value as a starting point for pilgrims traveling the route to Santiago de Compostela, linking it to important medieval pilgrimage traditions. It is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflecting its cultural and architectural importance.
