Installed in 1865, this baroque revival fountain was designed by the architect Louis Garros. It is the central feature of an Italian-style square that dates back to 1760. The square is paved with large stone slabs and is bordered by 18th-century buildings featuring ornate facades.
The area has undergone several name changes since its creation, previously known as Place du Marché-Royal and Place de la Liberté. The current name serves as a commemoration of the former Parliament of Bordeaux.
